It has been more than a month since the WHO classified the corona virus as a pandemic.

Around 120,000 people worldwide have died and more than a million have been confirmed infected.

The World Health Organization, WHO, is now trying to get a clearer picture of exactly how fast the virus spreads and how deadly it is.

“Ten times more deadly”

“We know that covid-19 spreads rapidly and is deadly, ten times more deadly than swine flu in 2009,” said WHO Director-General Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus at a press conference on Monday.

Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus also believes that it has been possible to see that the virus is spreading faster in nursing homes, and that more and more data from different countries is beginning to give a clearer picture of the virus.

“We know that infection testing, isolation, care and detection are incredibly important in stopping infection,” said Adhanom Ghebreyesus at the press conference.

More about swine flu:

Swine flu, also known as H1N1, was an influenza pandemic that broke out in 2009. As with the coronavirus, one feared that too many people would get sick at the same time, and that important social functions would be affected by this.

More than 18,000 people worldwide died of swine flu: Sweden had 26 deaths and almost 11,000 confirmed cases of disease.
