The OECD report named Sweden as the worst country to reduce the spread of the infection. Of the 28 countries studied, Sweden was the worst at changing movement patterns, reducing the R number and reducing the number of hospital patients.
But the study has come under fire. Among other things, state epidemiologist Anders Tegnell has said it lacks context.
– The different curves are extremely context dependent and it is very difficult to draw these different conclusions, he told journalist Emmanuel Karlsten.
Tegnell was also supported by Prime Minister Stefan Löfven, who on Expressen TV called it “comparing apples to pears.”
The doctor saw the report
And now another name is added among the critics. In a discussion article on SvD, Anders Björkman, an infectious disease physician and professor of infectious diseases at the Karolinska Institutet, writes that the report contains several errors.
“It is remarkable that an official report on an important topic such as covid from an institution like the OECD is of such low quality“, Writes Björkman.
The doctor points out, among other things, the information about the R number. According to the OECD, Sweden took 58 days to bring the number down to one, while the infection doctor believes it took about 30 days.
“That is, to the highest degree at the same time as other countries“, He writes in SvD.
Another error concerns the number of tests. The OECD lists Sweden as one of the countries that conducted the most corona tests this spring. Björkman calls it a miscalculation and writes that the country didn’t have such high numbers at all.
“Unfortunately, similar ‘fake news’ permeates much of the statements about covid.”
