Corona outbreak in two Gothenburg primary schools

After two weeks of distance learning, Gothenburg’s high school students are now back in schools. As of last week, teaching is applied at school and at a distance, which has aroused criticism and concern among teachers, according to GP.

According to the coordinator of the primary school administration, Nils Kaiser, distance education has helped to slow the spread of the infection, but alternative education also has a moderating effect.

– We see that the school units where we could be scarce already in autumn stopped much of the spread of the infection at that time, he says.

Just before Christmas, when the spread of infection in society was at an all-time high, the elementary school also struggled to keep up to reduce the covid infection. Now it looks much better, he says.

– There is a big difference, since the spread of the infection has decreased throughout the region. Now we are more in phase and we have time to act in advance.

Two partially closed schools

This week, it is a high school class in a school, as well as parts of a special elementary school that has distance learning, due to many cases established between students and teachers.

– We do not say which school units it applies to, but the secondary school class is on the continental side and the special primary school is in Hisingen.

Students can work from home for the rest of the week, then a new assessment is taken. Students who for some reason cannot have distance education have the opportunity to come to the school.

– All decisions are made in consultation with the infection control physician. We work closely with the region’s Infection Control Unit, says Nils Kaiser.

From a parenting standpoint, it’s more common to want more powerful measures than to complain about distance education, he says.

– We will probably get more signals that the Guardians want us to do more sooner. It is always a trade-off. Children feel good about being in school, but if necessary, we make the necessary efforts.
