Three nursing homes in Malmö have been affected by corona outbreaks. Seven elderly people have been infected in one place.
– We have informed relatives and advised them against visits, but we do not have the legal right to close for visitors, says Helen Martinsson, director of the department of special housing in the city of Malmö.
“We advise relatives to visit houses that have crown buds,” says Helen Martinsson, department manager for special houses in the city of Malmö.
In a nursing home, the Rönnen nursing home in Värnhem in Malmö, there is a major outbreak.
– It is true that we have an outbreak where seven users have been infected in the same place. It’s concerning, says Helen Martinsson.
– Infection tracking has started and we have taken a number of different steps to stop the infection. Those who live in the room now receive their care within their apartments and our staff wear protective gear. It is very important, we need to stop the infection when you enter a home.
By the end of the week, almost twenty users were infected in various nursing homes in Malmö.
As soon as a case is established, the municipality takes special measures and looks for the infection, explains Helen Martinsson.
– We have some neighbors with contagion, I think there are three houses with several infected. But nothing where everyone is infected and we have managed to limit it. Of course, it is unfortunate because it affects the elderly and frail. Unlike Stockholm, so far we have been saved in Malmö.
Helen Martinsson does not deduce buds until the curfew was lifted on October 1. In some places, the outbreak started earlier.
– Of course, it is difficult to know how the infection occurred, but since we spread it even in the spring, when there was a restraining order, it may also have come through the staff. It is rather that we have an increase in Scanian society in general and we all move in it. It is incredibly important for everyone to follow the instructions on how to behave so that we can limit the spread. You have to endure and persevere, he says.
“Remember: have no symptoms, wash your hands, keep your distance” is written on the doors of all Malmö municipal nursing homes.
Family members of people in affected nursing homes They have received information about crown buds, but the doors are not closed so they can visit:
– We do not have legal support to close, these are private houses of people. It was different in the spring when the government gave it to us as a directive, then we had to close. But now we urge all family members to wait with visits to these homes until the infection ceases. Either they meet outdoors, or using digital aids, we will be happy to assist you. We understand that you want to meet now, the opening has been highly anticipated, says Helen Martinsson.
She feels that the relatives of the affected wards respect him. On all the doors of nursing homes, throughout the city, there is also information that you should contact the accommodation before visiting it. This is to hear what the status of that particular accommodation is.
– We do everything possible to prevent and prevent infections. Once we have it, we do everything we can to prevent it from spreading. We have managed to limit outbreaks, we have learned a lot about how we best work against the pandemic in the last six months.
In Malmö, 1,540 people live in special municipal housing.
– It’s still a very, very small proportion of infected, says Helen Martinsson.
