The Norwegian government announced a multi-tiered tightening at a press conference on Monday.
Citizens are advised to invite a maximum of five guests at the same time and at private events outside the home, such as weddings or company parties, it is decided that a maximum of 50 people can meet. The latter is a rule and the reduction is made from 200, which was the previous limit for that type of event.
Business travelers coming to Norway from countries included in the red list must isolate themselves for ten days. In the past, business trips were exempt from the isolation provisions.
Norwegian municipalities also receive more tools to stop the spread of infections locally. The government now says that municipalities can introduce rules that limit the number of private gatherings to 10 people or to 20 people at private events outside the home. They can also introduce requirements for oral protection in public places and require that everyone who can work from home.
The new restrictions will go into effect the night before Wednesday and will remain in effect until early December, Erna Solberg explains, saying that Norwegians are expected to be able to celebrate Christmas as usual. Younger children are also exempt from the government’s recommendation to invite only five people home.
– Children should be able to celebrate Halloween and birthdays with friends from preschool or school. The information we have on the virus tells us that we don’t have to be so strict with children, says Integration Minister Guri Melby.
Earlier on Wednesday he announced Raymond Johansen, president of the Oslo City Council, that everyone in the capital should have mouth guards in closed public places if it is not possible to stay at least one meter away and in all restaurants where you do not sit at a table. The number of confirmed cases of infection in Oslo has increased steadily for three months.
The number of people in crowds indoors shouldn’t now be a maximum of 50, but the limit should be lowered to 20 and nightclubs shouldn’t allow more guests in after 10pm. Furthermore, all employers should be able to demonstrate that they have done everything possible to allow work from home and in Oslo. As of Thursday, you should have no social contacts with more than ten people a week, excluding your own home, preschool, and elementary and middle school.
– The current situation is worrying, but the pressure of the infection is not alarmingly high. Just look at the numbers for other big cities, but we have to be careful. The wave of infection that is spreading across Europe can also come here, says Raymond Johansen according to VG.
He blames the number of infections per week from 300 to 400 in the last week, largely due to labor immigration. More specifically, it mentions guest workers from Poland and calls for stricter rules on sampling and quarantine for these groups.
In Oslo, there is already a ban on private events with more than ten people, a bar stop at midnight, mouth protection requirements in public transport and 200 maximum in outdoor crowds.
