Covid-19 spreads within Lund’s schools and elderly care. On Wednesday, 54 users of eight special homes had fallen ill. The staff situation is now so tense that employee holidays for Christmas and New Years can be canceled. Staff absenteeism is also high within the school.
Lund is ranked 16th out of 33 Scanian municipalities for infection, said Philip Sandberg (left), Chairman of the municipal board at a digital press conference on Wednesday.
On Wednesday, the municipal leadership of Lund held a digital press conference where the situation of the crown in the municipality was summarized:
– It is a very tense situation in Lund and the rest of Skåne. It is going in the wrong direction with more spread of the infection and therefore we can expect it to get worse before it gets better, says Philip Sandberg, (left), Chairman of the City Council.
Within the home care service and LSS, there are still no infected people, but within special dwellings, both in municipal and private management, the covid-19 is spreading. In some units, it is a very tense personnel situation and, therefore, the municipality has activated its organization for significant losses of personnel.
– Until the end of November, we have relatively spared. But now it is a further spread of the infection in society that also affects us. This increases the risk of spreading infections in health and care, says Anna Borgius, director of health and care.
The tense staff situation means that the granted leave can be withdrawn on short notice. Unauthorized license can also be denied.
– This is very boring. At the same time that my employees need rest and recuperation, we must ensure that our users receive the help and care they need, says Anna Borgius.
She emphasizes that the virus takes paths that cannot be controlled.
– The virus can be very aggressive in spreading the infection. Our main objective now is to provide good care to our municipal residents. We test users, employees, and traces of infection when there is a suspected or established infection.
The Christmas closings will be held without tutors. Protective equipment such as visors, mouth guards, gloves and isopropyl alcohol were sent to all schools this week.
– It is a measure of the work environment: if children get sick and school staff cannot maintain a distance of two meters, then there must be protective equipment available, says school principal Jytte Lindborg.
The municipal management has also carried out a skills inventory among the eleven thousand employees of the municipality to see how to transfer different employees to different functions.
– It can be as much about getting into basic businesses as it is about building your old health and care or management education, says City Manager Christoffer Nilsson.
– I hope that everyone assumes their responsibility and follows the recommendations of the authorities so that those who must be in their workplaces for society to function have the opportunity to do so, he continues.
