She describes the dementia situation as chaotic.
– Infected Corona users run among the uninfected. We have eight who died on covid-19 in a month, says the nurse.
This was not what she thought she would find in her job as a young nurse in a private nursing home.
It is a pure dementia residence with about 40 dementia patients in Stockholm County.
She describes the situation as chaos, as the coronavirus began spreading on the property just over a month ago.

“Some are difficult to keep in the rooms because they are dementia sick and run a lot,” says the nurse.
The infected cannot always be kept isolated, since anxiety and confusion are part of the disease picture in dementia.
– Some are difficult to keep in the rooms because they are sick with dementia and run a lot, says the nurse, who wants to remain anonymous for fear of losing her job.
The situation has deteriorated.
Since the first case of infection was found on the property in March, the situation has deteriorated.
– There are infections in all departments. And we who care for sick users also care about health.
With the infection came the deaths.
– Old men started dying in March.
Since then, ten users have died.
– Two of them have had negative responses, the rest have been positive for Corona.
“There are no routines”
According to the nurse, eight people must have died with covid-19 in the accommodation. In one room, the death toll must have been so high that all residents of the room are assumed to be infected.

She claims that both information to staff and infection prevention procedures are inadequate.
– There are no routines. They try to silence him as much as possible. They don’t take our questions seriously. We are not protected with the equipment we have, she says.
– It was as if the administration did not previously understand that it was transmitting between users. We have not received a clear directive.
“Gossiping a lot”
The only instruction personnel have received is to put on gloves, plastic aprons, and mouth guards before entering the infected and then spray their hands.
“But it’s a lot of shit,” she says.
– We have regular mouth guards on papers that do not seal and do not change during the day. And nothing to protect our eyes.
It is also neglected with the staff, where some are invited to come in and work even though they have had symptoms like colds and fever.
– We have a shortage of staff and we have no additional staff.
Before, she herself was concerned about being infected. But because he is young and does not belong to any risk group, anxiety has decreased.
“Heartbreaking to see them die”
The nurse is deeply upset by the lack of routines, information, education, and coordination to prevent the spread of infection in dementia.
– It’s horrible that nobody does anything, she says.
She suggests that the elderly who are infected are isolated and placed in the same room and attended by specialized personnel.
– So we should get significantly better protective equipment and much better training on staff.
She suffers from watching the elderly disappear in the dreaded illness.
– It is heartbreaking to see how my dear users get worse and worse and more and more people confirm that they are infected, says the nurse.
– The pain and despair of family members lead me to work even harder. It is tough and many older people don’t want covid-19.
