On March 13, Lena Hallengren warned that relatives should not visit nursing homes. And on April 1 the final message arrived.
– The national restraining order has been one of the most difficult restrictions during the pandemic. Therefore, it was a difficult decision to make. But it was also the right decision.
– But today I am sincerely happy that the curfew of October 1 is over, says Lena Hallengren.
However, the Minister of Social Affairs stresses that the pandemic is not over yet. Therefore, he urges everyone to assume their ultimate responsibility in the event of a visit.
– We are still in an ongoing pandemic. It’s a risk when we lift the ban. I want everyone to take responsibility now, he says.
The restraining order has been in force since April 1 and has been extended several times, following a government decision, which finally decides.
“You must take responsibility”
Olivia Wigzell of the National Board of Health and Welfare notes that infection in nursing homes has dropped dramatically since April. But like Lena Hallengren, she urges everyone to abide by the crown’s recommendations.
– Even if most things are going in the right direction in spreading the infection, we may still be affected by new outbreaks. This means a great responsibility for the elderly and their families and, therefore, each of us must bear a great responsibility.
– To support municipalities, the National Board of Health and Welfare has adopted binding regulations that will include special housing during the pandemic. The regulations say that companies must do a risk analysis to maintain a good quality of care and support, says Olivia Wigsell.
When asked if the restraining order can be reintroduced, Lena Hallengren responds:
– We don’t know what the future holds. We cannot conclude that the spread of the infection is gaining momentum, but there is so much going on than at the beginning. Now there is so much knowledge and routines in place. We are constantly prepared to take further action if necessary, but it becomes incredibly important that you think and think about how you behave.
Researchers at the University of Pittsburgh have so far tested the drug in mice and hamsters.
