Actor Iwar Wiklander and Sven Wollter performed together in “Waiting for Godot” at the Gothenburg City Theater in 2009.
– “Godot” is one of the most intimate role constellations you can have as a man, so it was quite magnificent. He was the one who came up with the idea of having me, which is funny because we’ve never been on the same level politically. He was a revolutionary and I was a social democrat. He often forgot about that and still came up with ideas. But we had a very good relationship.
– It is a great sorrow and loss. We are Gothenburgers and I have followed it all the time. I was very scared when I heard that I was sick with covid-19, but I was strong and always worked hard.
Hilda Hellwig directed Sven Wollter 1993 on the big stage at the Stadsteatern in Stockholm in one of the leading roles in Friedrich Durrenmatt’s “Visit of a Lady”.
– There were very fierce confrontations, but of course it went very well. By the way, it was the same year that he was voted the sexiest man in Sweden, she says.
How would you describe your talent as an actor?
– You really listened and cared about the content of the works. He was just completely committed. We also shot together later in my movie “The Doll Boy”, where he interpreted in a completely different but wonderful way. He was as reserved as when he was on stage: committed and stubborn as hell. Working with him has always been meaningful. This is when you work with people who think that art and communication are important.
Actress Marika Lagercrantz He only has warm memories of Sven Wollter:
– A great soul, I must say. I am thinking of his family right now. I thought Sven would take much longer. He feels desolate, says Marika Lagercrantz and continues:
– In my opinion, he was a very sexy person and there was a lot of civil courage around Sven. He was also an incredibly handsome man then and such a damn good actor.
Actress Marie Göranzon He has played Sven Wollter a couple of times in the movies, including in the thriller “The Mesh Net”, based on a book by Håkan Nesser.
– As I recall, he was very loyal, a thorough person, just plain. I’m surprised he’s gone. We didn’t know each other very well, but I admired him and really enjoyed seeing him on stage.
What did you admire?
– I liked his vitality and his commitment. He left nothing to chance. He was a keen actor who delivered his message, be it political or artistic, with power. I think it is not so often that you see actors like this in the theater anymore.
Actor Krister Henriksson He participated with Sven Wollter in the 1983 miniseries “Profitörerna”.
– Sven is one of the actors with whom it was difficult to pass. It has been so strong all the time, it has also bothered me many times, but that is it.
– Actors have a tendency to be very children of their time, as well as to become so conventional or opportunistic. Sven is one of those who was not, who endured his communism. Sometimes you thought “wake up” but he got tough and that’s great. He meant a lot to me, he was a role model.
Actress Cecilia Frode has worked with Sven Wollter several times. Just a few weeks ago, they faced each other in a production.
– He was one of the most attractive guys I ever worked with. He was so sure of having by his side, he had a lot of experience without being prestigious.
What was it like working with him recently?
– He was interested, he said “come and sit here next to me and tell how it was since the last time we met.” Her strength was warmth and faith in other people, it seeped into everything she did, says Cecilia Frode.
In the mature minimum age Sven Wollter made his debut as a novelist. Pelle Andersson, CEO and publisher of Ordfront, had a “role” in it:
– I have been the editor of his three novels, he made his debut as a novelist when he was 82 years old: The autobiography “The boy with a bow”, “She, him and death” and the most recent “Brita’s trip”. He was incredibly cooperative and very respectful and humble before his new job, he really wanted to become a writer as he was as an actor, says Andersson.
– You noticed that I read a lot, I could capture exactly what I wanted in two words. I have met many great writers as a critic and editor, and Sven was always a kind and friendly person. He was eager to see everyone around him, not a diva at all.
Sven will be here soon Wollter will be heard by reading Sandor Márai’s radio series “Glow” on the Swedish Radio website and app. “Glow” was first recorded and broadcast in 2002 and was later produced by Kerstin Wixe:
– Working with Sven was a very professional story. Nothing was overlooked and as a producer, perhaps the main task was to end his self-criticism in a timely manner. During the recording of “Glow” I remember often having to say “that was good Sven, we don’t need to take over.” Finally, he gained the trust of my ear and was able to trust him. And it turned out well, it’s a fantastic read that makes for a novel like no other, says Kerstin Wixe, who worked with Sven Wollter for twenty years.
“Glow” will be available to listen to starting tomorrow, Wednesday, November 11, and on December 1, Sven Wollter will be heard reading “A Christmas Tale” by Charles Dickens, something that has become a tradition in recent Christmas.
