On Thursday morning, Örgryte agreed to go their separate ways with head coach Keith Millen. That’s after four defeats and a cross in the team’s last five games, including a loss to division three team IF Lödde and a 2-0 loss in the Gothenburg derby against Gais.
In a message on his website, Örgryte describes the decision as the best solution, while at the same time assuming that assistant coaches Sören Börjesson and Miguel Beas will lead the team for the remainder of the season.
Örgryte President Joacim Nordh explains the decision to Fotbollskanalen.
– Yes, it’s a whole together. Then there are many details that come into play. The analysis we have done on things, which is based on our achievements and results, we keep internally on the board, Nordh tells Fotbollskanalen and continues:
– But with that said, we got some criticism that we might be a little weak in the decision and the message that Keith would have time off now for a few days while we went home and thought. I still think it was a good, mature decision on our part, because the risk when you end up in those situations that we often end up in is that you make decisions a bit hasty and things go too fast. But after this embarrassing loss to Lödde, we felt like we all had to go home and think.
– After that, we have had many long meetings with those involved where we have discussed and turned over all the stones that you can light. So we come to the conclusion that this is the best.
How long ago did the discussions about this start?
– I really don’t want to go into that and say dates, but we have a continuous dialogue, both with players and leaders, about how we can help from the board so that they feel their best. From that, several things emerge that we have taken a position on, both positive and slightly less positive. But then that’s the way it is in this life, it’s about dealing with both with the same meaning.
Assistant coaches Sören Börjesson and Keith Millen will now lead the team for the remainder of the season. But Örgryte has yet to make a decision on whether it is a temporary or permanent solution, while the search for a new coach for the 2021 season has not begun.
– Sören and Miguel will lead the team this season. But there have been some extremely intense days here now, early in the morning and late at night, with many discussions. So we haven’t gotten into any new coach yet, but now we will save this season and do well. It’s our absolute focus right now, that we focus on this and make sure it’s good. We will begin the work of hiring a new coach, but today I will not answer when it will be.
