Cloudy, dark, and humid – Lately, a gray blanket has spread across the country. But next week the weather may offer if not so much sun so at least a little variety.

The sun shines by its absence in most of Sweden. And during the weekend, the cloudiness remains, although it can crack in some places, mainly in the north of Lapland.
But early next week, it looks like the stalemate could be broken. The high pressure that has still been in eastern Sweden for a period is about to give way, explains Sofia Söderberg, a meteorologist at SMHI.
– It seems that it can cross a bit from the west and that at least we have frontal systems that pass over the country. But there does not appear to be a general clear area. It’s going to be very cloudy, although it may start to crack a bit, especially in the north of the country, he says.
In any case, the third Advent will be a grayish story, and in the coming days several areas of precipitation are expected over the country, both with rain and with snow.
– It is mainly in the north-west of Svealand, that is, in the great north of Värmland and Dalarna, where there are partly snow elements. In the hinterland and mountainous areas of southern Norrland and in northern Norrland, there will be predominant snowfall, but the southern coast of Norrland will receive predominantly rain, says Sofia Söderberg.
So far, December has offered few opportunities for sunshine. In Stockholm and elsewhere, the number of hours of sunlight has been zero for the first week of the month. But if December this year is darker than usual, it’s too early to answer, according to Sofia Söderberg.
– In general, December is a low month of sun. If we look at Stockholm in the years 1983 to 2019, there are on average about 18 days in December that are completely without sun. It does not happen every year that it is a whole week without sun, but it is not extreme that it happens either. We have had a December in which we have registered zero hours of sunshine in Stockholm.
