Clas Ohlson’s online sales increased dramatically, by 63 percent, during the period May 1 to July 31, according to the company’s interim report released Wednesday morning.
For the past two years, Clas Ohlson has worked according to a strategy that is tailored to face competition from digital giants like Amazon, which is now entering Sweden, says CEO Lotta Lyrå.
– We anticipate that Amazon and other global players will reach out to the Nordic region.
She believes the biggest challenges are getting short, hassle-free deliveries and competing with the low price point companies like Amazon can keep.
Do you see a possible scenario where Clas Ohlson sells products on the Amazon platform?
– We are already doing it in England and we are seeing how we are going to do it in Germany. Outside of the Nordic region, we have said that it is interesting to be on that kind of platform.
– On the other hand, in our markets of origin – Norway, Sweden and Finland – it is our store, our own online and platforms such as Mathem and Kolonial that are our business model. So we have no plans to partner with Amazon here.
Clas Ohlson more than It doubled its profit before tax from May 1 to July 31, to SEK 150 million, compared to SEK 62.7 million in the corresponding period last year.
Sales rose by one percent to just over two billion, but this should be seen in light of Norway’s weak crown, says CEO Lotta Lyrå.
– We have had enormously strong sales in Norway, but when we translate it into the Swedish krona, it becomes much smaller because the Norwegian krone is so weak. So you should look at the seven percent organic growth.
In the report, the company also announces that Kristofer Tonström will take over as CEO after Lyrå, who announced last summer that he will be leaving.
The pitch stream gets closer from the fashion industry and a position as CEO of Filippa K. He will take office on March 9, 2021.
“At Kristofer, we have a CEO with focused leadership who comes in with a lot of energy and high ambitions to develop Clas Ohlson even further. I really look forward to our future collaboration, “said Kenneth Bengtsson, Chairman of the Board of Clas Ohlson in a press release.
