It was in August 2018 that Chris Watts, 35, committed the murders that shook the US state of Colorado.

The father of two first murdered his pregnant wife, Shanann Watts. He later murdered his daughters Bella, 4, and Celeste, 3.

Chris Watts pleaded guilty to murdering his family and was sentenced to five life sentences. Shanann Watt’s body was found buried near an oil company that Chris Watt previously worked for. The daughters were found in a nearby oil tank.

Wife’s last sms

In the new Netflix documentary “American Murder: The Family Next Door” addressing the case described is the last text message conversation Chris Watts had with his wife prior to the murder.

“What kind of vegetables do you want for dinner tonight?”asks Shanann Watts.

“Broccoli works well, haricoverts work too.”, Responds Chris Watts.

“Okay, I’ll buy it at Costco tomorrow. Do you want me to buy something other than salad and spinach?”asks Shanann Watts.

Chris Watts responds:

“That’s it. Has the plane taken off yet?

“Finally on the plane and waiting for it to take off. Thank God! Pray for a safe flight! Thank you! I love you.” writes Shanann Watts. Chris Watts does not respond to the message, which is also the last thing Shanann sends to her husband.

I wanted to be with the lover

The motive for the murder must have been that he wanted to live with his lover and work colleague. It appears in a letter Chris Watts wrote to author Cheryln Cadle. The lyrics then turned out in the book “Letters from Christopher: The Tragic Confessions of the Watts Family Murders”.

The letters also claim that the killings were not spontaneous. Chris Watts writes that the day before he knew what to do.

“On August 12, when I slept with the girls, I went away and said to myself ‘that was the last time I slept with my girls'”Chris Watts writes in the letter.
