According to Trump, the Chinese regime can use both the telecommunications company Huawei and the video-sharing service TikTok to collect information about American users.
A month ago, Secretary of State Mike Pompeo announced that he wanted to remove all “untrusted” Chinese applications from US application stores and that “applications from the People’s Republic of China threatened” their security and spread misinformation.
On Tuesday, there was a new movement, on the Chinese side. China is now launching its own global data security initiative at a time when “specific countries” are “bullying” and “chasing” companies, Reuters reports.
Foreign Minister: Must be fought
Foreign Minister Wang Yi explained how they want technology companies to work to obtain safe products and that companies from within should also not be involved in tracking or collecting information from foreign nationals.
It says that some countries are engaged in a “Global search for leading companies in other countries with ‘security’ as an alibi. This is pure harassment and must be questioned and fought.”
However, it is unclear if and which countries would participate in the Chinese security initiative.
Prohibitions and sanctions for companies
In Europe and the United States, the technological battle continues. In late August, TikTok’s Chinese owner ByteDance sued the Trump administration following the president’s order to ban the app in the United States.
The United States has previously banned US mobile operators from using Huawei’s 5G technology.
At the same time, several European countries, including the United Kingdom and France, have considered excluding Huawei as a supplier during the expansion of the 5G network.
China is already blocking Twitter and Facebook in the country.
