Our discussion article on SvD Debatt 1/3 criticized the Swedish National Agency for Education in Special Education for Learning (SFL) knowledge push for failing to provide teachers with the concrete tools specifically requested to serve students with disabilities. neuropsychiatric disabilities (npf). The National Education Agency writes in a response that Children in Need is wrong if we believe that the increase in knowledge would only be about npf. Of course, we understand that Special Education for Learning has a broader perspective than npf exclusively, but the National Education Agency seems to overlook that it was the school situation of groups of students with npf and newcomers that led to the initiative and that it should be specifically addressed.
The Government’s guidelines were clear: “Continuing education modules can be divided into /… / part-special education with special specializations, such as neuropsychiatric disabilities.” The Minister of Education also described the need in the media and “that the school provide support regardless of functional variation can never be an argument against working for a greater understanding and knowledge of npf. /… / The government is now expanding a comprehensive school development program to disseminate special education knowledge and tools to all teachers ”.
