GOTHENBURG. Sweden is ready for the 2022 European Championship.

Will there be a championship with veterans Nilla Fischer, Hedvig Lindahl and Caroline Seger on the team?

Age doesn’t matter for Peter Gerhardsson.

– The best will join, says the captain of the team.

Several of the top stars of the national team are at the end of their careers.

Goalkeeper Hedvig Lindahl is 37, midfielder Caroline Seger is 35 and midfielder Nilla Fischer is 36.

With the corona pandemic, the championship cycle has been postponed and both the Olympic Games and the European Championships have advanced a year.

Sweden is poised for the European Championship, to be played in 2022. Clearly, it was the ‘team women’ who celebrated the craziest advance in the dressing room.

But if we look up?

Lindahl, Seger and Fischer play in the championship that is expected in advance to be the best championship of all time.

For forward Sofia Jakobsson, the answer is given:

– They keep driving. Of course I hope they are involved. Incredibly important players to have on a national team. Skilled and experienced, they mean a lot to these national teams,

Will they last in a year and a half?

– Yes, it’s not that much. It’s fast.

For the captain of the national team, Peter Gerhardsson, form and physical ability are crucial.

– I always want to play with those who are the best, it has nothing to do with age, he says.

“It’s hard to think very well”

Caroline Seger herself is a nice guy, who was seen against Iceland. The team captain was solid in midfield, winning duels and second balls and having fun when the game went through the middle and not over the whole team.

After the match, she was cheered on by Glodis Viggosdottir from Iceland, teammate at Rosengård.

– I still think she is one of the best midfielders in the world. I think he will maintain that level and it is very important for the Swedish team. If I were Swedish, I hope you don’t give up, said the Icelander.

Caroline Seger smiled at the compliment:

– As always, I pay well …

The next championships will be a matter of the future.

– It is so difficult for me to think of such a heavenly future. Where I am now, it feels great. I’ve had a good year, soccer feels fun and I feel good in the national team, where I feel like I can still deliver. Somewhere will be the most important thing, then we will see where we are when we travel to England, says Caroline Seger.

Nilla Fischer said earlier this week that she is unsure of the European Championship play-offs.

– We’ll see. I have a contract next year and I will fulfill it. I’ll do what I can to compete in the Olympics, then we’ll see, he said.
