Carl Starfelt tested positive for COVID-19 and is isolated in his hotel room.

The Swedish soccer team has been affected by the corona virus against the Nations League.

– UEFA rules say there are 13 players available, including a goalkeeper, so the game will be played, says national team coach Stefan Pettersson.

On Thursday, all the players and leaders of the Swedish national team were crowned.

Carl Starfelt’s test result was positive, on Friday morning the midfielder was tested once more and responses to that test are expected to come later in the day or on Saturday.

– Calle took it very well, he is calm and stable. He feels good and is now kept in isolation according to UEFA protocol and local infection control rules, everyone lives alone. He had tested negative twice before, it is not certain that you are contagious, but you can be. We have caught something that is not normally made in ordinary workplaces, we have such tight controls that we hope to pick it up before it has had time to spread. Considering that we’ve already run 500 tests on the team and the squad, they’ve almost been waiting for it, says Anders Valentin.

It may take a week

The method used does not allow reading the content, you can only see if it is positive or negative.

– I suspect he had the infection with it before entering the collection. It may have been a week and if it had infected someone here, it may well be a week before it is visible. You can get infected when you don’t have symptoms, but it’s not very likely. It’s probably not very contagious, probably not at all. In the field, there is basically no risk of infection, says Anders Valentin.

“It feels excessive”

Will you cancel the training that Norway has done after a crown fall?

– Norway has very strict protection against infections. It feels excessive.

The 25-year-old Stockholm plays every day for Rubin Kazan in the Russian league.

National team captain Janne Andersson has already fallen ill with covid-19 and has stayed home since the ongoing national team meeting.

Sweden face Croatia at Friends Arena on Saturday night and France in Paris on Tuesday night, both matches in Group 3 of the Nations League.

Chaos in national team football

On Wednesday, Sweden lost 2-0 in the international training match against Denmark at the Parken in Copenhagen, after the Danish team suffered the crown during the match.

Croatian Domagoj Vida played ill with the coronavirus in the international training match against Turkey in Istanbul on Wednesday night.

It was discovered at half-time and the 31-year-old Besiktas midfielder was substituted before the second half.

Domagoj Vida was seen during the match hugging various teammates and opponents.

French striker Wissam Ben Yedder has also tested positive for COVID-19 before matches against Portugal and Sweden.

Does not measure antibodies

The Swedish national team does not measure antibodies in the players, they have some players who think they may have had it but only Albin Ekdal has had it officially.

On Saturday, all the players and leaders of the Swedish national team will be evaluated again.

Answers to the latest tests from Croatia will arrive no earlier than Friday night.
