All regions of the country agree. Some health professionals take priority and are now receiving the coronavine vaccine, earlier than planned. In some parts of the country, vaccinations will begin next week.

The criticism from doctors and nurses in intensive care comes from the time the Swedish vaccination strategy was presented. Now they get what they want. Following a joint decision, all regions of the country now plan to vaccinate certain health personnel, several weeks ahead of schedule.
– It is the regions themselves that decide, but what they are looking at is mainly the intensive care and emergency care staff, says Emma Spak, head of the section of health and medical care in the municipalities and regions of Sweden (SKR), to TT.
Several regions have recently raised the need to start vaccinating health workers earlier. The burden of care is described in some places as “extreme” and an absent doctor or nurse can deal a serious blow. Some regions have already decided to start vaccination earlier. Stockholm will begin vaccinating health personnel next week.
– It will look a little different in the country depending on how far the regions have come in phase 1. But starting next week, the regions will be able to start vaccinating health personnel.
The basis for the decision is Tuesday’s announcement from the Swedish Public Health Agency: that the vaccination of health personnel can be advanced. This will be carried out in parallel with the last part of the vaccination of the priority groups during phase 1, where the personnel of the municipal health and care activities are already included.
– We are very happy with the clarification from the Public Health Agency. That’s what the regions have wanted answers for, says Emma Spak.
TT: What do you say to people in the risk group who are included in phase 2, for example, more than 70 people who live at home?
– I do not agree with that. The prioritization scheme is fixed. The large group of people over 70 years of age who live at home will have to be vaccinated in other purely logistical ways. Vaccination of healthcare professionals will take place in parallel and is a way to use all vaccines effectively.
– The aim is to protect those who are at risk of becoming more seriously ill, and then regions must also be able to ensure that they receive care if they become ill. It’s important that this important care can be maintained, says Emma Spak.
Previous vaccination
Vaccination in phase 1 is now in progress. The groups that are vaccinated are residents in care for the elderly, people with home care, those who live with people with home care and municipal care personnel.
In phase 2, other people aged 70 and over are vaccinated, people who receive interventions according to the LSS, and health and care personnel, who work closely with patients and recipients of care.
