The alarm that at least one car was on fire in a garage in Hammarkullen was heard shortly after 8 p.m. Saturday.
The rescue service sent nine units to the scene.
– We were there with three stations. It was a fire with some smoke development, says Christer Dyrfelt, an alarm and control operator for the rescue service in Greater Gothenburg.
Rockets against firefighters
According to initial information from the police, at least one car, possibly more, had immediately started burning. Firefighting work was also hampered by the fact that rockets were fired at personnel working to put out the fire.
– We have information from witnesses to the site who say that the youths fired rockets in the area. They must have also fired fireworks at the rescue service personnel. However, as far as we know, no one has been injured, says Johan Josarp, a police officer on duty in the West Region.
Later in the evening, the rescue service announced that the fire had been extinguished and that a total of two cars and a lot had been burned in the garage building.
Established record
– Now we would say that the risk of spread is over, says Christer Dyrfelt of the rescue service, and goes on to say that it has also calmed down at the scene.
After the operation, representatives of the rescue service have presented a police report.
– We have launched a preliminary investigation into an alleged blue light sabotage, says Sebastian Börjesson, duty officer in the police in the West Region.
So far no suspect in the crimes has been identified.
