A wanted man in his 40s was arrested Saturday night after a car chase that began in Kungsbacka and ended at sea.
– He was previously arrested in his absence for a series of serious crimes, police spokesman Fredrik Svedemyr tells TT.
The hunt began in the vicinity of Åsa at 9:30 on Saturday after the man failed to stop at the police sign.
– He drove on a nail mat, but the journey continued in the direction of the Torkelstorp marina. There she drove directly onto a jetty and landed in a boat. Both the ship and the car sank.
The man managed to get out of the car and continued the escape by swimming.
– But he chose to return voluntarily. The police had to help him out of the water.
The man was questioned on Sunday. In addition to the crimes for which he was wanted, he is also suspected, among other things, of negligence in traffic, driving while intoxicated and damage to the bridge and the ship.
