The man and woman had ingested cocaine capsules, but the smuggling journey to Sweden ended on the Swedish side of the Öresund Bridge when customs stopped the passenger bus in early September last year. The two Dutch are now sentenced to prison for serious drug trafficking.

Drug dogs had tagged the 51-year-old woman when the bus, which was heading to Norway, was searched and X-rays were able to show that she had ingested around 330 grams of cocaine. Nearly 620 grams of cocaine were found in the 56-year-old man’s body.

The man and woman are sentenced to four years and four months in prison and three and a half years, respectively, but the duo are not considered to be behind the actual smuggling scheme.

A 31-year-old passenger is considered to be the principal and the Malmö District Court writes in its judgment that he participated in the smuggling “without exposing himself to risk”. The man, also from the Netherlands, is sentenced by the entire party with cocaine to five and a half years in prison.
