Candles have formed a gathering place in Vetlanda

Part-time firefighter Drago Tomic, 26, was on hold Wednesday. It was a day that changed a lot for Vetlanda.

It leans forward over the flower heart placed in the center.

– I want to light a candle around town. It’s so sad, there’s really nothing else I can say.

Florist wants to spread love

On Thursday night, several people have chosen to do the same as him, next to the flower shop where one of the victims went after being attacked with a knife.

– We want to spread love. It’s our way of sharing with us, says Hanna, who works at the store and has been involved in making the flower heart arrangement.

Two who have gone there are Jenny Bäckman, 44, and her daughter Hedda, 12.

– We light candles for everyone, says Jenny.

Complete Hedda:

– Especially for my friend’s grandfather who was attacked by Willys. He was stabbed twice, but survived.

Many in Vetlanda are affected by what happened, in one way or another. Hedda herself came very close to the attacks, along with her friends.

– I was on a picnic in town. We had been to Willys just before the attack. As we sat outside, a lady came over and said we had to go and call our parents. Then I saw a lot of police officers running and sirens.

Meet the victims in Vetlanda

Lovisa Gustafsson, 19, and Pontus Husberg, 22, have also chosen to light candles when night falls, the night after the event.

– We light candles to show solidarity, says Lovisa.

– We know most of the wounded. It’s such a small city, says Pontus.
