Canada continues to impress at the Youth World Cup at home in Edmonton.
In tonight’s semi-final against arch rival Russia, it was a clear 5-0.
Schneider scored 4-0
The game was basically decided after the first period, where Canada came out at a breakneck pace and made it 1-0 after 59 seconds.
Before the period ended, Canada had made it 3-0, and when Braden Schneider, just over four minutes into the second period, was unmarked in the left technical circle and could score 4-0, it was more or less the nail in the coffin.
– They do what they have done in all the games. They come out strong, score a quick goal, and then just keep going, says SVT sports expert Nils Ekman.
Russia played a bit, and it seemed to shrink at the end of the period, but after a long video review, the goal was ruled eventually removed.
Can get America in the final
In the third period, Canada controlled the events and there was never any drama. In the end, it was 5-0 after Dylan Cozens hit the five at the open goal with barely a minute and a half left to play. Thus, Canada became the first team in the semi-finals.
– It will be difficult, difficult, difficult to beat them in the next final, says Nils Ekman.
In the final, Canada will face the team that wins the second semi-final tonight, between the United States and Finland.
