Bulgarian Prime Minister Boyko Borisov tested positive for COVID-19.
In a post on his Facebook page, he writes that after two tests he has now been found infected with the coronavirus. He adds that he has mild symptoms, that he has isolated himself at home, and that he should undergo the recommended treatment.
Borisov, 61, and three ministers already sat in isolation on Friday, after having contact with a person who later turned out to be infected. On Saturday, the responsible health authorities lifted the quarantine of the prime minister, but Borisov himself claims that he has remained isolated.
The spread of the infection in Bulgaria, with some seven million inhabitants, has increased considerably in recent times and there have now been more than 37,500 confirmed cases of infection and 1,084 deaths.
On Thursday, the government decided that mouth guards should be worn in densely populated places outdoors, except indoors and on public transportation.
