Four regions are included in the sample survey that the Swedish Public Health Agency has carried out in the last two weeks. Last week’s results show that the British variant of the virus is most widespread in Västra Götaland.
Twenty percent of the samples analyzed were considered to be of this variant. The week before, week 4, the corresponding share was 12 percent.
The study is carried out with the so-called mutation PCR, which indicates that it is probably the British mutation. However, all positive samples will also be analyzed in more detail to confirm that the result is correct.

The Infection Control Doctor: “Not Unexpected”
The prevalence of the British virus variant has also increased in several other countries where it has spread, as it is considered more contagious, among other things.
– It is therefore not surprising that a similar image is observed in Västra Götaland. The survey will continue for several more weeks in collaboration between the labs and the Swedish Public Health Agency, says Thomas Wahlberg, infection control doctor at Västra Götaland, in a press release.
Same action against covid-19
However, the measurements are the same, regardless of whether you have been infected with the British or with any other variant of the coronavirus.
– Treating and tracking the infection of people who have contracted COVID-19 caused by these variants of the virus is no different from other COVID-19 infections, says Thomas Wahlberg.
