Swedish researcher: Good sign

The UK is slowing down corona vaccination for certain target groups after allergic reactions.
But according to Professor Matti Sällberg, the alarm is positive.
– If I had carried out an uncontrolled mass vaccination, something much worse could have happened.
After the United Kingdom was the first country yesterday to start vaccinating against covid-19 with the vaccine from Pfizer and Biontech, the British authorities have issued a warning.
Two people had an allergic reaction when injecting themselves, reports Sky News, among others.
Both people have a history of “severe allergic reactions” in the past. According to the Swedish Medicines Agency (MHRA), the warning, which urges those who have had severe allergic reactions in the past not to get vaccinated, is a “precautionary measure.”
– Both are also recovering well, says Chief Physician Stephen Powis.

Britain began vaccinating against COVID-19 on Tuesday.
“Must be investigated”
How people reacted is not specified.
But Matti Sällberg, a vaccine researcher and professor of biomedical analysis at the Karolinska Institutet, says the warning should not be viewed as a cause for concern, quite the contrary.
– Show that you are careful and control this process. If he had done a mass vaccination without control, something much worse could have happened. This is always the case when new drugs are introduced, which is why Pfizer has only received emergency approval. So of course it is important to find out what the reactions are due to.
Important with various vaccines
Those who are skeptical about being injected with a vaccine developed at record speed shouldn’t take this as a sign not to, according to him.
– No, this applies to two people out of every thousand who have been vaccinated, so it is very, very unusual. It’s great that I can advise those who know they have reacted with serious allergic infections before, but for the rest of us I don’t see any cause for concern.
According to Sällberg, the request that some avoid Pfizer’s vaccine also applies when the vaccine arrives in Sweden. But that’s what the Medical Products Agency decides.
– Of course, you must investigate which component of the vaccine it was. But this also illustrates how important it is that we get several different vaccines because some may be sensitive to this, for example.
According to the Swedish vaccine coordinator Richard Bergström, the entire population of Sweden will probably have been vaccinated by the end of the summer of 2021. Sweden currently has agreements with five providers. Pfizer, Moderna and Astra Zeneca have said they will be able to administer doses during the first quarter of next year, provided they are approved.
