Infections are dramatically declining in the UK.
The vaccination strategy appears to have succeeded beyond expectations, and the end of nearly a year of closure is now nearing.
– We hope to be able to open schools again on March 8, Prime Minister Boris Johnson said during a press conference on Monday.
The UK has long been one of the largest grieving children in Europe, in terms of covid-19 management. The country was hit hard by the first wave last year and had at most 1,000 deaths per day. Even the prime minister fell ill and practically stood between life and death for a few turbulent weeks. After a calmer summer, Kent’s mutation occurred: the highly contagious coronavirus that now dominates the country’s covid-19 infected.
On top of all this, the country’s economy has plummeted as a result of several long and tight closures.
Bottom line: Not much has gone in the way of Boris Johnson during the pandemic. Except for one thing: the vaccination campaign. There, the Prime Minister has stood out. When the EU failed and took a long time to negotiate deals with pharmaceutical companies, the UK had already placed its orders.

At the time of writing this report, the country has vaccinated almost 15 million people, and right now all the curves are pointing in the right direction. The number of infections has fallen below 10,000 cases per day. It may sound like a lot, but you have to go back to October to find such low numbers. The death toll is also falling at a rate that has exceeded all expectations.
And now the British dare to hope again.
Life returns to normal
March 8 is the date when life should return to normal. Then the schools will reopen, after almost a year of distance education. Even stores should be able to open their doors again.
– I’m optimistic. That is the plan, but we must be careful. I cannot give any guarantees, the prime minister said during Monday’s press conference.

On Monday next week, February 22, the government will present a more detailed plan for the path back to an open society. The nightmare for the government would be to have to tighten the restrictions again.
– What people want is clarity on the way forward and the steps we must take to get out of closure. We don’t want to retract them later, Johson said recently.

I don’t want to go back to work
But not everyone learns to return to work without complaining. The teachers’ union has already made it clear that it is skeptical about opening a school in March.
The government is planning demands for more space per student and good ventilation. Masks can also be mandatory.
The question is also whether the rest of the society signs to go back to their offices. Are vaccines enough?
In early autumn, when the infection was at its lowest, British politicians had great difficulty convincing citizens to get to work. The reluctance became very costly, especially for restaurants and stores that live in commuters.
It remains to be seen how Boris Johnson’s chapter of the pandemic ends. So far, the covid-19 disaster appears to be the prime minister’s political triumph.
