The UK has started vaccination with Astra Zeneca’s covid-19 vaccine, developed in conjunction with the University of Oxford. The first to receive the syringe was Brian Pinker, an 82-year-old dialysis patient, at a hospital a few hundred meters from the laboratory where the product was developed.

Pinker thanked the researchers behind the vaccine, which is the second to be approved in the UK.

– I am very grateful to have received the covid vaccine and very proud that it was what was developed in Oxford, he says.

– The nurses, doctors and staff here have made a brilliant effort. Now I hope to celebrate my 48th wedding anniversary with my wife Shirley later this year, he continues.

Andrew Pollard, head of the Oxford vaccine group, has also been vaccinated, according to the British health system NHS.
