Britain can leave the EU without a trade deal

It has taken time to negotiate a trade agreement between the UK and the EU.

The British want a similar agreement to Canada’s with free trade, but they must be prepared to trade within the EU in the future, like the Australians. They have been denied free trade.

Now Prime Minister Boris Johnson says there is a “high probability” that the country will not reach an agreement with the EU before the current agreement expires on the last day of December this year.

This week, he met with the president of the European Commission, Ursula von der Leyen, without achieving a breakthrough in the negotiations.

“Now is the time” to prepare for the fact that there will be no deal, according to the BBC.

“Make things much more difficult”

According to Boris Johnson, Britain is willing to “go the last mile” to reach an agreement.

At the same time, it attacks the EU, which it believes is trying to “lock” Britain into its system or risk “punishment” such as a tax on imports.

“It makes things a lot more difficult,” he says.

That is why the Prime Minister says, given where they are now in the negotiations, that the British should not expect a free trade agreement.

“It is very likely that we will get a solution more similar to Australia’s relationship with the EU than Canada’s relationship to the EU.”
