“Some forms of racism are mentioned in particular in the government action plan against racism, of which Afrophobia is one of them. We know that Afro-Swedes are exposed to hate crimes in Sweden and then it is important that we learn more on this, “says Åsa Lindhagen (MP), Minister for Gender Equality and Minister responsible for work against discrimination and segregation, in a written comment.
In the review, Brå will shed light on the nature of Afrophobic hate crimes in order to gain better knowledge and be able to improve preventive work against racism and especially Afrophobia, the government writes on its website.
As part of the study, Brå will collect knowledge and experience from civil society organizations and relevant authorities.
The mission is part of the work under the government’s national plan against racism, similar forms of hostility and hate crimes. The plan includes working against various forms of racism, including Afrophobia. Earlier this year, the government commissioned county administrative boards to develop work against racism in the labor market, with a focus on Afrophobia.
The allocation must be notified to the government by November 25, 2022. Brå receives 1,750,000 SEK to carry out the allocation.
