A Malmö District Court board member has been suspended from his assignment after it was revealed that he offered treatment to a convicted man at a non-profit association run by the Scientology movement, Kvällsposten writes.

– It is very unusual for the district court to suspend the members of the board. The disciplinary issues we have regarding board members generally concern board members who do not appear in various negotiations, says Lennart Strinäs, acting attorney at the Malmö District Court.

Earlier this year, a 52-year-old man was sentenced to probation by the Malmö district court. The court disagreed and therefore the penalty was the lightest. The man would also undergo treatment deemed appropriate by the probation service.

Shortly after the verdict, one of the judges who convicted him contacted the 52-year-old. The court then offered him treatment different from that prescribed by the court.

After the district court found out what the judge had done, it was decided to suspend him for four months.
