GOTHENBURG. IFK Gothenburg is already in talks with a limited group of coaches and their representatives.
For this reason, the club comes out with the objective of having a permanent solution ready in a week.
– We have a picture of what the requirements specification looks like, says President Mats Engström.
As early as Wednesday night, Sportbladet received information that Poya Asbaghi would likely be fired on Thursday morning.
The manager change process at IFK Gothenburg has been underway for several days.
Ready soon
So when IFK Gothenburg at a press conference in Kamratgården at 11.00 on Thursday officially announced that they had fired Asbaghi, they also said:
– It will be an internal solution when the players regroup and train again on Sunday, says club director Max Markusson.
When do you have a permanent replacement for Asbaghi?
– The ambition is to have our new coach in his place when we play the next game, and it is at home against Hammarby (Thursday 10th September).
Already momentous conversations and explorations with a small group of coaches and their representatives are the reason for that moment of optimism, according to the information that Sportbladet has read.
When Sportbladet asked Markusson about this after the press conference, the answer was somewhat more concise.
Have you started conversations with any coaches?
– No comment, says the club director.
Similar game philosophy
IFK Gothenburg also knows what it wants.
– We have a kind of requirements specification, but I can’t go into what it contains, says Mats Engström.
What kind of football should IFK Gothenburg play?
– A more attack-oriented football is the path we must follow. We will not make a U-turn, says the president of Blåvitt.
Max Markusson:
– It was Poya Asbaghi’s task to change the way IFK Gothenburg played. He has done a fantastic job and created a change that I think should be lasting in places.
– Now we need someone to manage the good parts of this and to develop and refine what Poya has started.
– Unfortunately, from Poya’s perspective, it may be someone else who reaps the benefits of what he has planted, says the club director.
