People in Louisville waiting for the prosecution.
Black woman Breonna Taylor was shot and killed by US police in March this year.
One of the three police officers involved is on trial, but not for his death. Instead, he is accused of endangering his neighbors.
Breonna Taylor, 26, was shot and killed in Louisville, Kentucky, while she was sleeping. Three plainclothes police officers entered the apartment due to a drug investigation.
There was a shooting at the home between Breonna Taylor’s boyfriend and the police. The boyfriend says he thought it was a robbery and that he fired in self-defense with a weapon for which he was licensed. Breonna Taylor was hit by police bullets and died. A policeman was also injured. No drugs were found in the apartment.
One of the three policemen was fired while the other two were reassigned.
The police officers who were fired fired ten blind shots, several of which penetrated other houses. A grand jury has now decided that he should be prosecuted for endangering Breonna Taylor’s neighbors, US media report.
Kentucky State Attorney Daniel Cameron says the other two officers had the right to respond to the shooting.
Ben Crump, who represents the Breonna Taylor family, condemns the decision not to prosecute her.
“It is outrageous and offensive,” he wrote on Twitter.
Taylor’s shooting death along with, among other things, George Floyd’s death sparked large protests against police violence and demands for justice.
Before the impeachment, the mayor of Louisville imposed a nightly curfew.
At the September meeting, Taylor’s family made a deal. The family received twelve million dollars in exchange for dropping their lawsuit against the city of Louisville.
