In early February, the IBU International Biathlon Federation announced that former Russian biathlete Yevgeny Ustyugov was suspected of doping offenses between 2010 and 2014.
A couple of weeks later, however, the message came from the CAS that Ustjugov was only convicted of doping offenses between 2013 and 2014.
But now comes a new message from CAS.
Ustjugov was also convicted of doping between 2010 and 2014 and thus all results of the Russian during the period are removed.
The retroactive decision means that Sweden will receive two new championship medals. Olympic bronze in relay in Vancouver 2010 and bronze in the World Cup in relay in Chanty-Mansiysk 2011.
Released for the first time
Björn Ferry was part of the Swedish relay team that finished fourth at the 2010 Olympics but now takes a bronze, unless an appeal comes next month, the first message previously told SportExpressen.
– Of course it’s boring. It had felt good to be restored.
And if the verdict is upheld, Ferry and the other Swedish riders will receive their championship medals.
– Sweden will get a bronze if this verdict stands, says the president of the International Biathlon Federation, the Swede Olle Dahlin, to SVT Sport.
Yevgeny Ustyugov was already investigated in 2018 for doping offenses, then along with three other Russian biathletes. But then the 2010 Vancouver Olympic gold medalist was released.
