The first alarm occurred shortly after midnight, and as police responded, the alarm was still raising about several other knife attacks in the city.
The conversations come from the entertainment scene, which for the most part takes place outdoors, around bars and on streets closed to car traffic during these times of pandemic.
The attacks lasted two hours. According to the police, they were apparently not planned. Terrorism, hate crime, or gang settlement are not suspected.
No connections
“It appears to be a case of random attacks, because we have not found any connection between the victims,” said police officer Steve Graham at a news conference.
– We treat the four events as a series.
A man was murdered and is classified as murder.
The two seriously injured are a woman and a man. The other five escaped with minor injuries.
Police have not released any further information on the victims.
“Hammered very cold”
Savvas Sfrantzis works in today’s neighborhoods. He saw how the perpetrator stabbed a young woman several times, which the people around at first perceived as if he was looking for her necklace.
– I was very cold beaten. He didn’t panic and didn’t react to anything. After stabbing her five to seven times, he left as if nothing had happened, Savvas Sfrantzis tells the BBC.
Police have received multiple descriptions of the man, but have not given any details. Anyone with surveillance cameras or phone photographs should contact the police.
Popular neighbourhoods
The event took place around the Aracadian Center, which is located between the Chinatowns and gay neighborhoods of the city of millions of inhabitants.
It is a popular area that has had some problems lately, local politician Yvonne Mosquito (Labor) tells AFP.
Prime Minister Boris Johnson and Home Secretary Priti Patel sent their condolences to the victims and thanked everyone who helped.
