A large forest fire broke out in Marbella in the afternoon.
According to Spanish media, an entire shopping center is on fire.
– People screamed and cried. It was like in a movie, says the witness.
Maximus Stael of Holstein.
The fire must have broken out in a forest that is right next to the tourist facility. Pura beach club and Laguna Town where, among other things, restaurants and shopping centers are located.
The Spanish media write that rescue helicopters, firefighting planes and some thirty firefighters have worked with the extinction during the afternoon and night, but that the shopping center is now totally on fire.
According to Spanish media, the reason for the spread of the fire from the forest is the strong winds that have blown during the day.
The Swede Maximus Stael von Holstein was present when the fire broke out. His parents live nearby and he is currently visiting there.
– We noticed that it darkened in the sky and the ashes began to spread. After 20 minutes, a lot of ash got into the pool and people started running from there. Then we saw how it burned from a roof, he says.
I felt surreal
Describe the atmosphere as almost cinematic.
– People fled the area, there was panic and tears and children screaming. It felt surreal, he says.
Maximus Stael von Holstein never had time to fear for his own safety.
– We were able to quickly get to a highway that is nearby. There he felt safe. Many tried to take a taxi, but it was not that easy, he says.
You have your accommodation a ten minute drive from the tourist facilities and you could easily reach the apartment.
– This still feels like a shock, he says.
The reactions he received afterwards are mainly from other Swedes on social media.
– There are some Swedish bands that I have read in and many think it is scary and terrible, says Maximus Stael von Holstein.
Larger wildfires are common in the area, but it is unusual for them to occur so close to tourist facilities and shopping centers.
