At 7.30pm on Tuesday afternoon, the rescue service was alerted to a large fire in an apartment building on Fogdegatan in Skäggetorp.
– It is a wind that burns, and all the wind will burn. But we hope it stays there because we think it’s a concrete floor up there, says Lennart Ågren, internal commander of the Östra Götaland rescue service.
How likely is it that you can limit the fire to the wind?
– It is our hope, ambition and tactic.
“Firefighters type 25”
Already at 8 pm, the rescue service had evacuated the people who were inside the building. No person should have been hurt. Lennart Ågren tells SVT Nyheter Öst that they are expected to stay at the site overnight. A total of five rescue service stations were dispatched to the scene Tuesday night.
– There will be about 25 firefighters there, says Lennart Ågren in the rescue service.
Can the effort be further expanded?
– We probably have the resources we need now. But the police, of course, will also block.
Police: it can wait
During the night, the police dispatched a total of eight patrols to Fogdegatan. By 9 p.m., roadblocks had been installed and some residents had been evacuated, including from certain neighboring properties.
– When it comes to a possible criminal suspicion, we have to wait, says Angelica Israelsson Silfver, Police Region East press spokesperson, continuing:
– Basically, our job there is to evacuate and put up barricades so that, for example, the curious do not get too close to the place where it is burned.
