A restaurant in Uppsala began to burn overnight.
Two nearby addresses have been evacuated by police, who are now investigating arson.
– We do not see natural causes for the fire. It was a very rapid fire, says Ivan Åslund, at the regional police command center.
Last night a fire broke out at 02:00 in a restaurant in Knivsta, south of Uppsala. The fire became explosive and firefighters will burn the building to the ground.
– We stay and monitor so the fire does not spread to adjacent residential buildings, says Tommy Wållberg, commanding officer of the rescue service shortly after 04 o’clock.
You are in place with four fire stations and a total of about ten units.
At 05.45, the rescue service was able to announce that the fire has decreased in intensity but that they are still working to limit the risk of spreading.
– The risk of spread has decreased, but the risk still exists. We have a forecast that we will be there until 9:00, says Tommy Wållberg.
Police announce shortly after 5 a.m. that they have cordoned off the area around the fire and evacuated residents in two nearby directions.
– We have evacuated some apartments in two neighboring houses. They should be able to return home again if the situation does not change drastically, says Ivan Åslund, RLC officer in the Mitt region.
It also says that police technicians will investigate this as arson.
– We do not see natural causes for the fire. It was a very rapid fire. Our technicians will investigate this when the fire is out, he says.
According to Björn Jacobsen, who lives nearby, the course of the fire was violent.
– My wife woke up with something small and the windows vibrated, she says.
No one should have been injured in the fire.
