The new injunctions were announced at a press conference Wednesday afternoon and will go into effect for all shopping malls on Thursday, according to press reports. After Christmas Eve, it is said to grow and apply to all of the nation’s retail trade, with the exception of grocery stores and drug stores.
– We have now reached risk level four across the country, said Mette Frederiksen.
So far, the risk level has four, which is the second highest risk level, valid in three Danish regions.
– We further reduce social activity. Therefore, we are introducing more restrictions now, which will apply until after the New Year. We do it because we are going to celebrate Christmas and because we are facing January and February, which the authorities expect to be the hardest during the pandemic.
“Denmark will be closed in practice”
On Wednesday, the increased restrictions already went into effect across Denmark, which means, among other things, that restaurants and bars must be closed. At the press conference it was confirmed that all shopping centers will be forced to close on Thursday and on Monday private traders such as hairdressers will have to go back to baring.
“From Friday, December 25 to January 3, Denmark will be closed in practice,” said Frederiksen.
The number of infected people admitted to Danish hospitals has increased rapidly in recent days. In the Copenhagen region, all non-emergency treatments and operations have been postponed so that covid patients can be prioritized.
Run to the stores
After the announcement, it is reported from Danish. DR that there has been a rush through the shops. Several shopping centers have also extended their opening hours until midnight. There are also reports of prolonged traffic jams in parts of Copenhagen’s city center.
