Since Donald Trump lost the US presidential election in November 2020, Republican politicians across the country have tried to restrict voting rights. Now Joe Biden responds with a presidential order.

There are more than seven times more such proposals than during the same period last year.
In response, the winner of the election, new President Biden, will sign a presidential decree on Sunday that will facilitate voting.
– Our nation has just witnessed an incomparable attack on the Capitol. And we are in the midst of a series of aggressive new attacks on the right to vote, says a White House spokesman.
– As the President says in the decree: it is our duty to ensure that it is easy and direct to register to vote and cast their vote for all those who have the right to do so.
The presidential order is presented on a date with many symbols. March 7 is the anniversary of “Bloody Sunday” in Selma, Alabama, when police attacked civil rights activists in 1965 protesting legislation that made it difficult for blacks to vote.
According to the White House, the decree will oblige federal authorities to help states register voters and improve access to electoral information. It will also be easier for Americans abroad to vote.
Voting rights issues have long been a tug of war in US domestic politics. Higher turnout typically puts Republicans at a disadvantage, who are accused of trying to make it harder, especially for minority voters who vote for the Democratic Party to a greater extent.
However, Trump’s electoral defeat has not only led to proposals that make voting difficult. So far in 2021, more than 700 proposals have also been submitted statewide to facilitate access to the polls, according to the Brennan Center for Justice.
