Biden: Trump calls for violence
Democratic presidential candidate Joe Biden is extremely critical of how President Donald Trump has handled the unrest in Portland, among other places. “It is ruthless and encourages violence,” Biden said in a statement.

“What does the president think will happen when he continues to ignite the flames of hatred and polarization in our country, when he uses policies of intimidation to pressure his followers? He is ruthless and encourages violence,” Biden said in a statement.
Tensions between different groups in Portland have been going on for almost three months since the black man George Floyd was killed in a police intervention in Minnesota. In July, President Donald Trump sent federal forces to the city to quell the protests. This weekend, one person was shot and killed.
“I condemn all forms of violence, whether from the left or the right. And I challenge Donald Trump to do the same,” says Biden. “We must not become a country at war with ourselves.”
Republicans deny that Trump is trying to compound the violence with his rhetoric and say he wants to restore law and order. They accuse Democratic mayors and state governors of losing control of cities that have been rocked by demonstrations, violence and vandalism. As recently as Friday, Trump called out anarchist protesters and looters.
