Biathlon World Cup 2021 • Sweden takes bronze in the mixed singles relay

Hanna Öberg and Sebastian Samuelsson have raced in the two WCs in which the mixed single relay has participated. The duo took bronze together at the Östersund WC two years ago and finished off the podium last year.

Today the next medal arrived.

After a difficult start, Sebastian Samuelssons made a strong third stage and was almost perfect on the embankment. Then a thriller awaited the last lap.

Öberg fired two arms in the horizontal shot and lost in the medal fight.

But while the competitors really failed, Öberg managed to get away with a boom on the last shot. With Ukraine on the shooter’s heel, Öberg was able to walk away and comfortably take home a medal for Sweden, the second championship duel with the nation. It was in the mixed relay where the Ukrainian Olena Pidhrushna accused Hanna Öbergs of being “unsportsmanlike”.

– I think it was a bit funny that there was a fight with Ukraine there almost on the sprint lap, we have a bit of a problem with them. It was fun to watch, 2-0 for us, says “Sebbe” in SVT.

Ukraine’s head coach Juraj Sanitra enthusiastically responded ahead of this weekend’s competitions:

– It was a good fight. We’re sorry for what Hanna Öberg did to us last time.

– It was a tough fight today. But next time we will beat Sweden. We also have a good team.

Swedish national team coach Johannes Lukas did not think of Ukraine today.

– I don’t care, it’s a medal for us. Everything behind us doesn’t matter, he says.

Dorothea Wierer, who was in the lead before the end of the dike, pushed Italy’s medal chances away. Gold went to France after Julia Simon broke Tiril Eckhoff.

– He’s sick. There are many teams that can participate and do well. In the last shot you felt that it was necessary that those in front could not do it and Wierer stayed there for a long time, luckily it went well, says the coach of the Swedish team Mattias Nilsson.
