Johanna Skottheim, 26, had the race of her life and finished third in the best competition the Swedish women’s team has ever run.
– My dream goal was that one day maybe I would get on the podium, which would happen on the first day is powerful, says Skottheim to SVT.
The top Swedish places were written in third, fourth, fifth, seventh and eleventh.
– It’s such a good team, it’s sick, says Skottheim.
On Sunday, the sprint at Kontiolax awaits.
– Normally I’m a better sprinter, but now I’ll enjoy this podium, says Skottheim.
It was an exciting fight for third place between Linn Persson, Elvira Öberg and Johanna Skottheim.
That battle was won by Skottheim, who had 20 hits, ten seconds ahead of Öberg.
– It’s worth getting on the podium after shooting only zeroes, says Elvira Öberg to SVT.
The position is Skottheim’s best in the World Cup, he already has four as top.
Elvira Öberg, who for the day eclipsed her older sister Hanna, also improved her best position in the World Cup when she was previously in the top eight.
– I’m super happy to shoot 19 hits. The last shot was tough, but he sat down and was very nice, says four Öberg.
After the last shot, there were three Swedes on top before Germany’s Denise Herrmann passed leader Linn Persson.
A few minutes later, Dorothea Wierer, who won the World Cup last season, came in and shot straight.
Wierer took the lead by 35 seconds, paving the way for an Italian victory in the first World Cup competition of the season.
The margin of victory it was written to just eight tenths and it was Wierer’s twelfth career victory.
A fantastic shot from the Swedish drivers made the hit list really blue-yellow.
The speaker was also there.
– Fantastic, commented on the Swedish effort.
Linn Persson shot squarely in the first two and would definitely be in the main fight if he continued with full house.
He did not hesitate to lie but made his five shots and continued with the same grace in the last position where he also made his five shots.
But that was only enough for a fifth place this Swedish day.
Mona Brorson shot 19 of 20 times, missing only second, but still only five behind the Swedes and eleven on the price list.
