Belarusian opposition politician Maria Kolesnikova will remain in custody until she appears in court on November 8.
According to his lawyer, the decision was made by a court in the country, says Russia’s state news agency Ria.
Kolesnikova, one of the main opposition figures in Belarus, disappeared in Minsk on September 7 and according to witnesses, masked men forced her into a car. Soon after, she appeared at the border with Ukraine with other opposition figures, tearing up her passport so as not to be forced to leave the country.
Kolesnikova was subsequently arrested and charged with inciting acts designed to undermine national security. For this, she risks up to five years in prison.
On Friday, the Russian news agency Interfax reported that lawyer Maksim Znak went on a hunger strike in prison. Znak, a lawyer and member of the coordinating council formed by the Belarusian opposition, was arrested last week.
Following the presidential elections in Belarus on August 9, when leader Alexander Lukashenko declared himself victorious, huge protests broke out in the country and thousands of people have since been arrested.
