Several journalists working in Belarus for foreign media lose their accreditation, reports the independent Belarusian news site tut.by. Without accreditation, they cannot legally work in the country.
They are journalists who have been active, among others, for the British BBC, the German ARD and the news agencies AFP and Reuters.
Tatiana Melnitjuk, who reported on behalf of the BBC, tells tut.by that she has been called by the Foreign Ministry and informed that her accreditation has been withdrawn.
– When I asked them what they had done wrong, they only answered that they had been given instructions to transmit the information.
Four Russian journalists working for the German ARD and the AP news agency have been deported from Belarus after being detained in Minsk on suspicion of actively participating in a mass action. They were deprived of their accreditation in relation to the security of the country and are subject to a five-year entry ban.
Swedish DN photographer Paul Hansen has also been deported from Belarus and has been banned from entry for five years. He was arrested along with some 50 journalists in Minsk on August 27.
