Baylan: Host the big shopping spree this year

Although there is general advice to advise against staying in stores, other than to buy food or medicine, authorities fear that it will crowd out the store in connection with sales and Christmas shopping at the end of the year.

Therefore sharp The Minister of Commerce and Industry at a press conference on Friday applied the rules to avoid congestion.

– My message is simple: If you can’t buy without avoiding congestion, then you shouldn’t buy, Baylan said.

– This year, the big shopping round may need to be canceled.

For those planning to buy Christmas gifts online, Baylan urges ordering packages to be delivered at home and avoiding ordering from postmen.

The alternative is to pick up the packages when there is no rush hour. Otherwise, the congestion at the stores will only be replaced by the congestion at the post office.

From the side of Svensk Handels, they have developed guidelines that member companies also adhere to, according to Karin Johansson, CEO of Svensk Handel. These are, for example, distance markings on the ground.

– Many companies dedicate their resources to electronic commerce. We are working to create safe delivery points, but also to increase home deliveries, he says.

– Our call is to spread your purchases, start now. Make sure there is no congestion. This is not the time for a social walk in the malls. Don’t go with the whole family to buy food, send one and let the rest wait outside. Keep shopping, but do so carefully, Karin Johansson said.

The Swedish Public Health Agency also warns about congestion when shopping for Christmas food and people who are not recommended will want to buy Christmas gifts.

Managing Director Johan Carlsson generally thinks that trade measures with, for example, distance markings and Plexiglas on the boxes are good, but worries that the next few weekends may be too much.

– Now I have not been in the trade that much since the general council, but I pass by and basically I think it is good. Then we see congestion in shopping malls and things like that and that is perhaps the situation that worries me before the Christmas holidays, he says and adds:

– It is clear that we understand that people want to buy a Christmas gift, but buy less than usual, try to distribute the visits and do it when you know from experience that there are fewer people there.

His advice to anyone who, despite the deterrence, intends to go out in the Christmas rush is to do it quickly.

– Do not go around and look, but try to think what it should have, go buy it and then go from there, says Johan Carlsson.
