Here are the horror images that shook the Junior Crowns.
Forward star Lucas Raymond crashed into the rim head-to-head and then went straight to the locker room:
But Raymond unexpectedly returned to play in the third period, scoring his nil goal in a 4-0 win against Austria.
– Immediately it hurt a little, but we checked it and we were good enough to play, he tells Viasat.
It was, unsurprisingly, a match against a goal against Austria. The junior crowns won the shots with a landslide 65-6, but the match with “only” 4-0.
Sweden created opportunity after opportunity and shot and shot, but the dividend in terms of advantage was slim throughout the match.
It was 2-0 at intermission when the nasty accident with Lucas Raymond occurred. The Frölunda forward was recently selected as number four by Detroit and was seen before the tournament as the biggest star of the Junior Crown.
Raymond was about to tackle an Austrian player when he missed and went headlong to the basket.
He lay down for a while before sitting up with the help of Dr. Ryan Allenby.
He scored shortly after the injury.
The skilled forward looked really upset when he was driven across the ice.
– No, I’m a seventeen-year veteran, it doesn’t look good, says Visat expert commentator Rickard Wallin.
The expert on the study, Erik Granqvist, was equally concerned:
– It’s a nightmare situation for Raymond.
Victor Söderström commented on the situation as follows:
– I saw that he missed the tackle and he came in with his head, but hopefully he’s okay.
“I had so many opportunities”
Shortly after Raymond’s injury, Noel Gunler rose to 3-0 with his second goal of the game.
But when third period began, Raymond unexpectedly returned to the ice.
– Just when it happened, it hurt a lot, but we checked and we were good enough to play, he says.
And he also had to break his zero goal when he was invited to an open goal by teammate Alexander Holtz.
– It’s always fun to score goals, today I had a lot of opportunities. Nice that he got loose in the third period, says Raymond, who says this on the question of whether it was in his head that goals were missed.
– I don’t think about it much, but you want to score goals and help the team in that way, says Raymond to Viasat.
Federation captain Joel Rönnmark says this about the situation and the decision to let Raymond play.
– Our doctor and physiotherapist made an assessment. At first it might have looked like it went wrong, but it wasn’t too bad, it was a bit muscular. There was no danger and he wanted to go out and play, says Rönnmark, who also left a positive message about team captain Philip Broberg:
– The plan is to play against Russia. If it was a difficult situation, he could have played this match too. He will be ready to play against Russia.
