Following the outcome of the test elections a few weeks ago, it was Eva Flyborg who appeared to be the new leader of the group and city councilor for the Liberals with 85 votes to 83 for runner-up Axel Darvik. The candidate Pär Gustafsson in turn finished with 58 votes. But despite Flyborg having the most votes, the nominating committee announced on Monday that they are unanimously nominating Axel Darvik.
– A little surprised, I can still say yes, they were completely unanimous. Eva and I had good results in the selection of the test and have now made a balanced evaluation, says Axel Darvik.
Is there a conflict between you and Eva Flyborg?
– No, it’s not. But he has to decide whether he wants to fight or not. I see Eva as an important and continuous player for the Liberals and hope that we can continue to have good cooperation.
Axel Darvik believes that he received some of the votes from candidate Pär Gustafsson because he came last in the outcome of the test elections. Eva Flyborg is somewhat disappointed after today’s announcement.
– I thought it was a bit sad when I heard the message from the nominating committee because I still won the trial elections. But I have also congratulated Axel Darvik on the nomination, says Eva Flyborg.
She points out that the two candidates have a good working relationship and agree on many points.
– Regardless of who is the municipal councilor, the other will have an important role. We are moving towards a policy change in Gothenburg.
However, it is still not entirely clear who will succeed Helene Odenjung. Everything will be decided at a members meeting on October 19. When asked if Eva Flyborg will take on the battle to become the new group leader for the party, she waits with an answer.
– I will think a bit about what will be best for Gothenburg, the party and me. There are more things to consider besides me. So that decision may take some time, he says.
