The neo-Nazi Sonnenkrieg Division will be Australia’s first terrorized extremist organization. The country’s intelligence service has warned that violence by right-wing extremists is a growing threat. But so far the government has been reluctant to formally label any of the organizations as terrorist groups.

The decision to add the Sonnenkrieg Division to the list means that membership or financial support for the movement will be banned. The organization is based in the UK, but the Home Office has shown concern about its outreach and influence over young Australians.

However, the opposition questions why the government chooses to brand a group that is only believed to have dozens of members in Britain rather than several larger and more prominent organizations with a broader connection to Australia.
