The landslide in the municipality of Gjerdrum is described as one of the worst in Norwegian history. Ten people are still missing and several houses have been completely destroyed.

Throughout Thursday, police, rescue services and defense continued to search for missing persons in the landslides.

– We are continuing the full-force rescue operation, police task leader Roger Pettersen said at a press conference in the afternoon.

Pulled from the house

While there are many doubts, now the testimonies come from people rescued from the landslides. One of them is Aud-Margaret, 64 years old.

She tells VG that she was holding onto the mattress when the house started shaking. At first he thought it was an earthquake. But then the wall disappeared and then the whole house collapsed.

Aud-Margaret was kicked out of the second floor of her apartment.

– On my thick Jensen mattress, I navigated to the bottom of the avalanche. It was completely absurd, he tells VG.

“Take back life as a gift”

The mattress had to function as a protective cave while I waited for help. Around him lay rubble. From chairs to sofas, tables and a car.

– At one point I heard someone asking for help. A little later a big explosion came and after that I didn’t hear any more voices, he tells VG.

Finally, the rescue effort saw her when another person was helped out of the landslide.

Three hours after the landslide began, Aud-Margaret was put into a fire truck with other rescuers. No damage, except for some abrasions.

– Knowing that you are saved then, is absolutely incredible. It is to receive life as a gift again, he tells VG.
